Summer Week 5!

No camps this week -- so Abigail made a camp schedule for the fun things to do at home for she , John, and Jordan.

They had a blast all week. Abigail had friends over with balloon fights.  Planted more flowers.  And they did all the things on the camp list too.

Saturday was rainy and we decided it would be fun to head to the movies.  You would think we were asking the kids to go to a prison, do hard labor and eat broccoli.  They were so furious to be forced to see a movie.  They had a great time in the end.  We needed a nap to recover.  We both kept thinking - are we awful parents for taking our kids to a movie?

The Trufla Tree -- this is a century agave.  It grows this wild long stalk flower once in 100 years and then a large portion of the agave will die.  This stalk grew up in a neighbor's yard in days.  We love to walk by and witness the miraculous beauty.

Abigail and I go on long walks once or twice a week.  We often visit the butterfly garden at a neighbor's house.  She has been such an avid naturist these days.

And so another one is grown -- John has caught the video game bug.  He wakes up early on the weekends to now commender Matt's video games.

Wednesday, coloring dinosaurs at the Science Center.

We tend to have ice cream every time it rains these days -- which is a lot.  Abigail has also been helping me cook.  She helped make lasagna.  She chopped the veggies, opened the can of tomato paste and cooked the sauce lovingly over two hours, all the while saying, "The tomatoes smell disgusting."  She would not taste it, but it was delicious!  She also has learned to cook cinnamon rolls and cinnamon toast for herself in the mornings for breakfast.

We had a dentist appointment on Thursday.  The dentist office was exhausting for me.  They nagged me silly about making sure we always brush teeth twice a day.  I was so irritated by the comments since I spend huge excess times in my day battling the subject that I should not nag anymore either.  The kids have been charged up by their good reports on their teeth and new toothbrushes that it has not been a fight.  ....but I can sympathize with them it is no fun to hear you must brush your teeth!  After the dentist, she wanted caladiums for her special treat.   So off to the garden store for the last caladiums of the season.

Swim lessons -- John is a Cowfish and about to graduate to a Frog.  Abigail is lagging behind in the Frog.  New motivation to get her breast stroke kick together to move on to Horned Frogs.  Competition is what drives motivation in these house!

Funny words:  Abigail and I are in a lengthy discussion on the topic of birthday gifts for a 7 year old girl.  John growing tired of the discussion says, "Ahh Just get her some princess stuff."

Great movie of the week - Nanny McPhee.  We have been researching great movies and documentaries for every family to see.  While Abigail, really wanted to see the Chicken People (not on the list but in the documentary section) we went with Nanny McPhee and we all loved it.

This was the first week we ever had a child come down and try to sleep in our bed.  Twice in one week too!  First John woke up at 5 AM and I just flat refused to entertain him and had him come sleep with us.  A few days later, he wet his bed and just decided to come sleep in the closest dry bed he could find.  Sadly, one wet child in the bed does not wake me up!  Matt woke up and figured things out and we got John and his bed clean and dry.

Abigail has also sang lovely songs to Matt and I.  His was about not working so much and not playing video games.  Mine was about thanking me for giving her life, that I look young but am really old, and pretty...really sweet until she said it was smelly in my uterus. Because smelly and uterus rhyme....So neither song is making it to FB, but will always be in my heart.
