Ladybugs

We had a great Spring Break week.  Abigail had Little Gym camp with friends, John and Abi had play dates with Bobby, and outings at the park, Pump it Up, and the Botanical Gardens. 

And best of all Bebe came to town! On Friday, we planted flowers all day long.  The kids enjoyed the day so much, they wanted to do it again all weekend. 

At Audrey's birthday party on Saturday, we learned we could buy ladybugs at the garden store. 

So we went straight back to the store and bought ladybugs and a prey mantis egg!  The first step before releasing the ladybugs is spraying the leaves in your garden so they will have dew drops for the ladybugs to take a drink.

We released about 400 ladybugs!  It was quite amazing.  They were crawling on our hands, in our hair and in our clothes (and unfortunately a few times under our shoes).  But the yard should be rid of all aphids, spider mites and anything else a ladybug would like to eat!  And in two to three weeks we should have about 150 baby preying mantis.
